Abayomi Mighty has expressed deep concern over the ongoing leadership tussle within the Lagos State House of Assembly, emphasizing the importance of adhering to constitutional provisions and the rule of law. He condemned the recent siege and the display of political high-handedness, which he believes threaten the integrity of the state’s legislative institution.
Abayomi Mighty mentioned that this crisis escalated following the removal of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, leading to heightened tensions and the detention of two lawmakers by the Department of State Security (DSS). Abayomi Mighty highlighted that such actions raise significant questions about the constitutionality and legality of the processes involved, potentially undermining public trust in the legislative system.
He called on all parties involved to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to resolve the impasse. He stressed that the legislature must operate independently, free from undue influence and coercion, to effectively serve its role as a check and balance within the government.
Abayomi Mighty also noted that the use of force and intimidation sets a dangerous precedent that could erode democratic norms and institutions. He urged the state’s political leadership to respect the autonomy of the legislative arm and to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful means. He emphasized that upholding constitutional principles is paramount to maintaining the rule of law and ensuring the continued progress and stability of Lagos State.
